Scope:

Manufacturing and engineering organizations struggle to adopt Model-Based Definition (MBD) beyond pilot projects due to fragmented toolchains, inconsistent Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) quality, and lack of interoperability between CAD, manufacturing, and quality systems.

Some organizations do not have the capability to author 3D models with PMI, others can author these models but downstream functions (manufacturing engineering, inspection, quality, suppliers) are often unable to reliably consume this information in a machine-readable, standards-compliant way. As a result, organizations continue to rely on 2D drawings, manual data re-entry, and interpretation of requirements, leading to inefficiencies, errors, and limited automation.

Approach:

The service provides end-to-end MBD integration and deployment, leveraging Capvidia’s software solutions to enable reliable, standards-based consumption of MBD data across the enterprise.

The service includes:

• assessment of existing CAD, PLM, manufacturing, and quality workflows
• definition of MBD requirements, authoring rules, and data standards
• integration of MBD tools into the customer’s toolchain
• configuration of STEP AP242 and/or QIF-based data exchanges
• validation of semantic PMI and model quality
• enablement of downstream use cases (inspection planning, quality reporting, supplier data exchange)
• training and documentation for engineering and quality teams

Outcome:

The result is an operational MBD workflow where the 3D model and its associated PMI can be reliably used as the authoritative product definition.
