Scope:

Data from different data sources (simulation, measurement, monitoring, etc.) can only be combined with each other if their semantic meaning has been clearly and consistently defined. The MpCCI Ontology now supports the WAAM and the SMC domain along with further refinements to the material domain.

In addition to the data format standards (syntax), semantic concepts are also created for subsequent semantic searches, data analysis and preparation for machine learning. We see that ontologies and semantic concept building will offer enhanced interoperability, improved data management and enhanced collaboration among the partners.

Approach:

There is a tremendous amount of data coming from various domains just for a single product or process. The manual labelling process could be a very quick and exact process for a very small company or for a team of a few people. Ontology, on the other hand, requires time and a lot of discussion for its development, but once it is in place, it can be easily upscaled and extended to include other sub-domains and can be globally used by multiple different partners. Ontology brings together a unified way of talking with data, which is far beyond the reach of manual, local labelling of data. Ontologies will help to organize this data and connect it with each other in a comprehensive manner.

Outcome:

Additional customization services could be provided by FhG SCAI.
