Scope:

Thermal and distortion simulations for metal additive manufacturing (PBF and DED) currently rely on commercial software, which is often computationally intensive. Nevertheless, users depend on these tools, as accurately predicting residual stresses is crucial to ensuring the structural integrity of the final metal components.

Approach:

Bring the rapid open-source based simulation tools to the market of metal AM, including other AM techniques (e.g. PBF and DED methods) as a service provision, and to support the manufacturing activities to generate additional revenue and growth for the company on the modelling solutions. We hope to educate the modelling community about the utility of open-source modelling solutions, which are suitable for low-medium income countries compared with the commercial modelling solutions.

Outcome:

This result is tailored for a specific customer problem, so the simulation tool will be offered as a service (simulation support and training) by EBBAMS, and as a software module for technology transfer to industrial and academic partners. It can be used for direct industrial applications (process optimization, parameter development) or for collaborative research (academic usage)
